The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), National Headquarters, has commended the Ogun State Government and security agencies for the successful rescue of students of Gateway ICT Polytechnic, Saapade, who were abducted last week.

In a statement signed by its Secretary-General, Comrade Oladimeji Uthman, the student body said it was relieved that the students were rescued alive and unharmed, ending the anxiety experienced by their families, colleagues and the wider Nigerian student community.

NANS had earlier held a press conference on Wednesday, where it issued a 72-hour ultimatum for the safe rescue of the victims.

The association also commended the Commissioner of Police, Ogun State Command, CP Bode Ojajuni, for what it described as exemplary leadership, strategic coordination and commitment to ensuring the safe rescue of the abducted students.

It said the intelligence gathering and collaborative efforts of the Nigeria Police Force, Department of State Services (DSS), Nigerian Army, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Amotekun, local security outfits, and other personnel contributed to the successful rescue operation.

Describing the rescue as evidence that criminal elements could be decisively confronted through effective collaboration, NANS urged security agencies to sustain the momentum.

“NANS sincerely commends the Executive Governor of Ogun State, His Excellency, Dr Dapo Abiodun, for his unwavering commitment to the security of lives and property and for providing the necessary support that facilitated the successful rescue operation,” the statement said.

The association added that the professionalism, determination and effective deployment of security resources by the Ogun State Police Command played a significant role in the successful outcome of the operation.

According to NANS, the development demonstrated that effective collaboration, intelligence-driven policing and strong government support could help confront criminal elements.

“NANS urges all security agencies to sustain these efforts in safeguarding students and educational institutions across the country,” it said.

The student body also reiterated its call for the continuous strengthening of security around campuses and student host communities to prevent similar incidents in the future.

NANS congratulated the rescued students and their families and expressed appreciation to all those who contributed to the successful operation.
