Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, has presented the scorecard of his administration, highlighting reforms in healthcare, education, road infrastructure and social protection, while stressing that these and more are evidence that people-centred governance can transform society.

Otti made this disclosure in Lagos while delivering a keynote address at the 60th birthday celebration of Citizen Bolaji Oluwayanmife Akinyemi.

His keynote speech was tagged ‘Life at 60: Senior Citizens, Government’s Role and the Citizens’ Pact.’

While speaking, Otti declared that national development depends on a strong partnership between responsible leadership and active citizenship.

The governor said that meaningful progress is achieved when citizens demand accountability, reject mediocrity and insist on good governance, while leaders remain committed to empathy, integrity and faithful stewardship.

Presenting his administration’s scorecard, Otti said Abia State has witnessed significant improvements in road infrastructure, enhanced security, regular payment of salaries and pensions, revitalisation of primary healthcare, and expanded investments in education.

He disclosed that education, healthcare and road infrastructure account for more than 51 percent of the state’s budget for the current fiscal year.

Highlighting his administration’s commitment to senior citizens, the governor said the Abia Senior Citizens Centre Law 2025 provides a legal framework for healthcare access, social welfare, cash grants, food support and protection of elderly persons from abuse.

He noted that mechanisms have also been established to identify vulnerable senior citizens and ensure they benefit from government programmes.

Otti, who asserted that caring for older persons should not be viewed as charity but as a moral and legal obligation, also urged the Nigerian society to tap into the wisdom and experience of senior citizens in national development.

He however, congratulated Citizen Bolaji Akinyemi on his 60th birthday and the launch of his book, Global Leadership Code: Donald J. Trump as a Case Study.

While describing the celebrant as a courageous civic leader whose life reflects stewardship, empathy and service to humanity, Otti called on Nigerians to embrace responsible citizenship.

He equally enjoined the citizenry to make informed leadership choices and work collectively to build a nation founded on accountability, justice and sustainable development.
