Jorge Messi, the father and long-time representative of Argentine football superstar Lionel Messi, has died at the age of 68.

According to Argentine outlet Infobae, Jorge passed away on Friday night at a hospital in his hometown of Rosario, Argentina, at around 10 p.m. local time.

The businessman, who played a key role in managing his son’s career, had reportedly been battling a long-term illness.

His health struggles had previously attracted attention, including during the 2022 FIFA World Cup, when Argentina reached the final.

Jorge Messi’s death marks a significant loss for the Messi family, who have remained closely connected throughout Lionel’s remarkable football career.
