The State Executive Committee (SEC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Plateau State, has unveiled Dr Daniel Kim as the running mate to the party’s governorship candidate, Chief Kefas Ropshik Kefiano, for the 2027 governorship election.

This comes as the party nominated Chief John Arkson as Chairman of the party’s Elders Council and named the former State Chairman of the PDP, Hon Chris Hassan, as the Director-General of the party’s Campaign Organisation.

Speaking shortly after unveiling his running mate, the party’s governorship candidate, Chief Kefiano, stated that despite the numerous litigations the party had faced in recent times, the PDP remained a force to be reckoned with in Plateau State politics and Nigeria as a whole.

Chief Kefiano insisted that he was running for governor with the intention of serving for one term to ensure that the state’s zoning arrangement was preserved, adding that the zoning of the governorship among the state’s three senatorial districts was sacrosanct and strictly adhered to.

He noted that previous attempts to sidestep the arrangement had been rejected by the people of the state, resulting in the loss of the governorship by the party in power.

“Plateau people are some of the most conscientious people in the country, and they always adhere to zoning regulations; thus, I will serve for four years in one term to complete the two terms of my senatorial district.

“Plateau State has been a solid base of the PDP over the years. The people are with the PDP, and we have a 70 per cent assurance of winning the election. The issue of incumbency does not arise, more so if the incumbent has not performed.

“Our campaign will be issue-based. The government on the ground in this state has failed the people. The President stated that he gave more money to the governors, but in Plateau State, there is nothing to show for it. There is no capital project set for commissioning with a few months to the end of this first term.”

A member of the PDP Board of Trustees, Hon Johnbull Shekarau, saluted the doggedness and resilience members of the party had displayed in the course of the struggle for recognition, adding that these had helped the party to get to where it is at the moment.

The State Chairman of the party, Hon Peter Tongshien, disclosed that the names of all the party’s candidates had been submitted to the National Secretariat of the party and successfully uploaded to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) portal, adding that the PDP was fully ready in the state to commence its campaign in line with INEC guidelines.

“We have successfully come up with a governorship candidate whose name has been submitted and uploaded to the INEC portal. Therefore, our party is ready to go into the field with candidates in place for all the positions,” he said.
