On Sunday, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) announced the extension of the deadline for submitting name of candidates for the 2027 governorship and State Assembly elections.
This was contained in a statement issued by the Commission’s National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee, Mohammed Kudu Haruna.

According to the statement, the new deadline for the final submission is now Tuesday, August 11, 2026.
Haruna also stated that INEC has approved an extension for political parties and the public to upload their candidate lists on the dedicated portal for the February 2027 elections.
