Kano holds mass wedding for 1,500 couples

Kano State Governor, Abba Yusuf, has urged the 1,500 couples who benefited from the state government’s mass wedding programme to build their homes on patience, justice, mutual respect and understanding.

Yusuf made the call while addressing the newly married couples, according to a statement issued on Saturday by his spokesperson, Sunusi Dawakin Tofa.

The governor reminded the couples that marriage was an act of worship and urged them to conduct their marital affairs in accordance with the teachings of the Holy Quran and the Sunnah of Prophet Muhammad.

“Marriage is an act of ibadah and should be conducted in accordance with the teachings of the Holy Quran and the Sunnah of Prophet Muhammad (SAW),” Yusuf said.

He urged the couples to respect one another and uphold fairness in their homes, stressing that peaceful coexistence was essential to building strong families.

“I urge you to respect one another, uphold justice and fairness in your homes, and ensure peaceful coexistence as you begin this new chapter of your lives,” the governor said.

Yusuf also advised the newlyweds to put into practice the lessons they received during the pre-marital counselling sessions, saying such guidance would help them navigate the responsibilities of family life.

“Make sure you put into practice the lessons you received during the pre-marital counselling sessions, because patience, understanding and mutual respect are essential to sustaining a peaceful home,” he added.

The governor prayed for Allah’s blessings upon the marriages and for the couples to be blessed with righteous children who would contribute positively to their families, society and humanity.

The mass wedding programme, coordinated by the Kano State Hisbah Board and held on Friday, was organised as part of the government’s social intervention efforts to support vulnerable residents and ease the financial burden associated with marriage.
