Popular comedian Anita Asuoha, better known as Real Warri Pikin, has cancelled her planned show in Warri, Delta State, over what she described as “unfortunate divisions” among ethnic groups in the state.
Real Warri Pikin announced the cancellation in a statement shared on Instagram, expressing disappointment over the persistent divisions in a society where she believes unity should take precedence.
In a video accompanying the announcement, the comedian described being an entertainer from Delta State as “very exhausting” due to the tribal divisions in the state.
“The disunity in my state is very tiring, especially amongst the ljaws, the Urhobos, the Itsekiris..I am not saying don’t fight for what is right but does it have to always be v!olent? Does it have to be oppression? I have been a victim of b#llying and oppress!on in Delta State for the past eight years. I don’t know it all. Growing up, everywhere was called Warri. Now things are changing, people are reclaiming their lands..Its okay…but why do you have to bring me down because I made a mistake”
She explained that an indigene of the event centre where she planned to hold the show had threatened to disrupt the programme because promotional materials for the event described it as being in Warri.

According to her, those behind the opposition argued that the event should instead have been promoted as “Real Warri Pikin live in Uvwie”, stressing that Uvwie is distinct from Warri.
“They said I should take down the billboards, social media posts, the radio gingles, take down the rollup banners, they wrote a petition. They said the show will never hold and that the day of the show they will come and scatter everything. Some other set are saying, even the Warri in my name I should remove it.”
Real Warri Pikin said the controversy and the demands surrounding the event had become overwhelming, leaving her exhausted by the situation.
