A Nigerian man, Ebikedoumene Bonny Jeff, has narrated how his marriage ended after years of unresolved grievances, including an incident in which he “mistakenly” followed another woman on social media.

Jeff disclosed the end of his marriage to Yinlayefa in a Facebook post on Saturday, August 8, 2026, the date that would have marked their fifth wedding anniversary.

He said their relationship started in 2008 when they were dating in their village and later welcomed their daughter in 2011.

According to Jeff, Yinlayefa was caring, humble and supportive, particularly during the period he struggled financially.

He said that after leaving for university, Yinlayefa took responsibility for the family and later got a job at the Federal University, Otuoke, where she handled household expenses and supported him while he searched for employment.

Jeff said he eventually found a job in 2019, before the couple got married on August 8, 2021.

“2019, I finally got a job & we got married (August 8 2021),” he wrote.

He said his wife became pregnant soon after their wedding, but the pregnancy ended with the death of the child.

Jeff said the loss further deepened existing problems in the relationship, which he said had remained unresolved from their earlier years together.

He disclosed that Yinlayefa had become pregnant three times while he was still a student, but he asked her to terminate the pregnancies because they were facing financial difficulties at the time.

He also recounted an incident involving another woman on social media, which he said became another source of conflict between them.

“I mistakenly follow another woman to her notice and she vowed not to forgive me in life. I begged her to forgive me for years but she refused,” he wrote.

Jeff said the accumulated grievances gradually changed their relationship, with affection, love and mutual support declining over time.

He said the couple became embroiled in prolonged disagreements and emotional distance.

“Nothing was working, the silence battle,” he wrote.

He further alleged that his wife made threats to harm herself and him during the difficult period, although he did not provide independent evidence to substantiate the claims.

According to him, the prolonged conflict eventually became too difficult for both parties, leading them to agree to separate rather than continue in an unhappy marriage.

“Today supposed to be our 5th marriage anniversary but we choose separation for future life that nobody should die because of marriage and both parties are happy,” he wrote.

Jeff said the decision was painful but maintained that marriage should not be regarded as a matter of life and death.

“Marriage is not a do or die affair,” he added.

Despite the separation, Jeff praised his estranged wife for the sacrifices she made throughout their relationship.

“I pray for you today, may God Almighty always protect and guide you, reward you plenty for all the sacrifices you have sacrificed in my life,” he wrote.

“You will always be my hero in my lifetime.”

Reflecting on the end of their relationship, Jeff said he was left with memories of their time together.

“My woman of my youth is no more with me together but life goes on. Today I am just left with memories.”

Jeff described the separation as a painful conclusion to his efforts to build a family but said both parties believed it was the best decision for their future.
