Activist Deji Adeyanju has declared that he considers himself “bigger” than former Anambra State Governor and NDC presidential candidate, Peter Obi, arguing that he has made greater sacrifices for Nigeria, particularly in the struggle for democracy.

Adeyanju made the statement during an interview while addressing his disagreements with Obi, insisting that their differences were not personal. He, however, claimed that Obi did not like him and alleged that some people associated with the former governor had insulted and defamed him.

According to the activist, he would always respond whenever he was attacked.

«“If you don’t like me and you send your aides to insult me, I will insult you back. But I will not join issues with your aides. I’m bigger than his aides,” he said.»

Adeyanju said he would not allow himself to be dragged into a confrontation with Obi’s aides, insisting that he considered himself to be on the same level as the former governor.

He also defended his previous criticisms of Obi, saying the claims he had made about the politician were true and that he was prepared to provide evidence to support them.

Questioning Obi’s contribution to Nigeria’s democratic struggle, Adeyanju argued that serving as a governor alone did not make anyone greater than those who had made personal sacrifices for democracy.

«“Has he ever made any sacrifice for the country that anybody shot at him? Has the military arrested him? What does he know about democracy that he’s enjoying? Does he even know what democracy is?” he asked.»

Adeyanju further claimed that he had been arrested by the military and survived several attempts on his life because of his activism.

«“I’m bigger than him because I’ve made more sacrifices for the country. I’ve almost been killed more than 17 times for democracy, fighting for democracy. What has he done?” he said.»

The activist also questioned the source of the funds allegedly used to establish a bank, asking: “The money they used to set up the bank, where did they get the money from?”
