Veteran Nigerian musician and African cultural music ambassador, Jese King, popularly known as Buga, has said that not every artiste makes music primarily for commercial success, insisting that many musicians create songs to stir emotions, inspire society, and leave a lasting impact rather than simply generate sales.
Speaking during an online interview, the ace musician advised aspiring and fast-rising artistes to first discover themselves, remain patient, and embrace the gradual process of growth in the music industry before pursuing fame.
Buga adviced artistes aspiring to embrace his style of music, which promotes African culture, saying to be commercially oriented and must, therefore, focus on mastering the rudiments of music and developing themselves into true professionals.
“Many artistes don’t make music to sell, but to stir. Many artistes are not commercial, and thus have to deal with the rudiments of music and becoming professional musicians. Especially in my genre of music, one has to know his onions and be deep as a professional artiste,” he said.

The veteran entertainer stressed that success in the industry requires more than talent, noting that education and adequate financial investment are indispensable in today’s technology-driven music landscape.
“One will also need money to push his or her career and, importantly, education. This will enhance one’s music career greatly, especially in the high-technology world we are in today. If these areas are properly addressed, the sky is the limit,” he added.
