MTN Nigeria has warned its customers against fraudulent messages and links circulating online, claiming to offer subscribers a free 25GB data bundle as part of the company’s 25th anniversary celebration.

The telecommunications giant issued the warning through its official support account on X on Saturday, urging customers to access the promotion only through its authorised platforms.

MTN cautioned subscribers against clicking on suspicious links, sharing personal information or making payments on websites and platforms claiming to offer the anniversary data bundle.

MTN identifies official channels

The company said the genuine 25GB anniversary giveaway is available exclusively through the MyMTN NG App and the MTN eShop.

MTN stated that customers should disregard offers appearing on unauthorised websites, social media pages or other platforms.

The company said, “Please beware of fake MTN 25th Anniversary 25GB giveaway offers circulating online.”

It added, “The official MTN 25GB Anniversary Giveaway is available ONLY via the MyMTN NG App and MTN eShop.”

MTN further warned customers not to click on links, provide personal information or make payments on platforms claiming to offer the promotional data.

How customers can redeem the offer

MTN explained that eligible subscribers can redeem the 25GB data bundle through the MyMTN App.

Customers are required to log into the application and select the “Redeem Now” option displayed on the anniversary banner.

The offer can also be accessed through the MTN eShop, where eligible subscribers can follow the prompts to activate the bundle.

According to the company, subscribers who received an SMS notification about the promotion may also use the link contained in the message to access the offer.

MTN, however, urged customers to ensure that any link they use is from an official communication channel before providing personal information or attempting to redeem the data.

Company warns against fake links

The warning followed the circulation of online posts and links falsely presenting the 25GB data bundle as a general anniversary giveaway.

Such fraudulent offers can be used to trick unsuspecting customers into providing sensitive personal information or making payments to unauthorised individuals.

MTN therefore urged subscribers to verify promotional information through its official channels before taking any action.

The company said customers should “only trust official MTN channels” when seeking information about the anniversary promotion.

25GB offer has expiry date

MTN also advised eligible customers to redeem the free data bundle before the promotion expires.

The company said the 25GB offer would remain available until 11:59pm on the stated expiry date.

Subscribers who qualify for the promotion were therefore encouraged to log into the MyMTN App or visit the MTN eShop and complete the redemption process before the deadline.

MTN reiterated that customers should remain vigilant and avoid unauthorised platforms offering the anniversary data bundle.

The telecommunications company’s warning is aimed at preventing subscribers from falling victim to fraudulent schemes exploiting the popularity of the anniversary promotion and free-data offers.
