A US-based clothing company, HercLeon, has unveiled a new T-shirt that it says can remain fresh for up to 30 days without washing, even when worn regularly.
The company recently introduced the HercShirt V5.0, the latest version of its clothing line designed to combat odour and reduce the need for frequent washing.
HercLeon, which previously gained attention for developing self-cleaning underwear, says its latest T-shirt uses specially treated fabric to remain odour-free for an extended period.
HercShirt designed to resist odour
According to the company, the HercShirt V5.0 can stay fresh for more than a month without washing, including during periods of heavy use.
The claim has attracted attention because regular clothing generally requires frequent washing, particularly in hot weather when sweating can contribute to unpleasant odours.
HercLeon says its technology works by incorporating several materials directly into the fabric rather than simply applying them to the surface.
The company said seven special ingredients are used in the material, including copper, silver, zinc, gold, volcanic ash and two undisclosed ingredients.
Special materials used in fabric
HercLeon says the different materials serve specific purposes in controlling moisture and odour.
Copper is said to help inhibit bacteria responsible for unpleasant smells, while zinc helps neutralise sulphur compounds associated with perspiration.
Volcanic ash, meanwhile, is incorporated into the fabric to absorb moisture and external odours.
The company has not disclosed the identity of the other two ingredients used in the fabric.
Company makes bold freshness claim
According to HercLeon’s Kickstarter campaign, the HercShirt V5.0 is designed to remain fresh for more than 30 days, even with heavy use.
The company also claims that reducing the frequency with which the shirt needs to be washed could help extend its lifespan compared with conventional T-shirts.
However, the 30-day claim remains a company claim about the product’s performance, rather than a guarantee that the shirt will be suitable for every wearer or every situation without washing.
Different versions and prices
HercLeon said the HercShirt V5.0 is expected to begin shipping in early November and will initially be available only in black.
The company plans to introduce additional colours, including navy blue, burgundy and dark green, at a later date.
For customers who find the $79 price of the V5.0 too expensive, HercLeon is also offering cheaper alternatives.
The company said a $39 version can remain fresh for up to three days of heavy use, while its standard version can reportedly go for up to 14 days without washing.
The new product is part of HercLeon’s broader effort to develop clothing designed to reduce washing frequency while maintaining freshness and extending the usable life of garments.
