The Nigeria Football Federation, NFF, has firmly denied reports circulating on social media claiming that it has called for the resignation of FIFA President Gianni Infantino.

The NFF, in a statement issued through its official social media account, described the reports as false and urged the public to disregard them.

“Contrary to reports, especially on social media, the NFF has never asked and is not asking for FIFA President, Mr. Gianni Infantino, to step down as FIFA President,” the federation stated.

The football governing body went further to characterise the reports as an “outright falsehood”, stressing that it had made no such demand.

The clarification comes amid heightened scrutiny of Infantino’s leadership, particularly following growing disagreements between FIFA and some European football stakeholders over the direction of the global governing body.

The NFF’s statement makes clear that, despite the wider debate surrounding Infantino’s presidency, Nigeria’s football authorities have not joined calls for him to leave office.

The federation therefore urged football stakeholders and members of the public to disregard claims suggesting that it had taken a position against the FIFA president.

The development also highlights the growing influence of social media in shaping narratives around international football governance, with the NFF moving quickly to distance itself from a position it said it had never adopted.
