EFCC arrests fake operative over alleged N3m fraud in Maiduguri
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has arrested one Nuhu Dahiru for allegedly impersonating an operative of the commission and defrauding members of the public of N3m.
The anti-graft agency disclosed this in a post on its official X handle on Monday, stating that Dahiru was arrested by operatives of its Maiduguri Zonal Directorate.
According to the EFCC, the suspect was apprehended in Tashan Bama, along Bama Road, Maiduguri, Borno State, following credible intelligence that he had been parading himself as an EFCC officer to deceive unsuspecting members of the public.
The commission alleged that Dahiru obtained N3m by false pretence through the impersonation.
It added that a total sum of N3m was recovered from the suspect at the point of arrest.
“The suspect was arrested in Tashan Bama, along Bama Road, Maiduguri, Borno State, following credible intelligence indicating that he had been parading himself as an officer of the EFCC, and thereby defrauding unsuspecting members of the public,” the commission stated.
The EFCC added that the suspect would be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations.
