The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) has rescued a critically injured road crash victim abandoned by a fleeing motorist at Ojota, Lagos.

The incident occurred weekend along the main carriageway around Ketu inward Ojota, where the unidentified motorist reportedly struck the victim and fled the scene, leaving him critically injured and helpless.

Director of Public Affairs, LASTMA, Mr. Taofeek Adebayo,  Sunday said the officers who arrived at the scene found the victim lying in a pool of blood and suffering from multiple traumatic injuries, including severe fractures and a serious head injury.

“The victim was reportedly still alive and breathing when the traffic officers arrived, but his condition was described as critical and requiring urgent specialised medical attention.

“The LASTMA officers immediately secured the accident scene, controlled traffic and took steps to prevent further danger to the injured victim and other road users.

“They also alerted the Lagos State Ambulance Service (LASAMBUS), whose medical personnel arrived at the scene to assess the victim and determine the appropriate emergency response,” Adebayo said.

Following their assessment, the medical personnel reportedly expressed concern over the severity of the injuries, particularly the multiple fractures and serious head trauma, and indicated the need to transfer the victim to a medical facility with adequate trauma-management capabilities.

The LASTMA officers, however, remained at the scene and continued to protect the victim while further emergency-response arrangements were explored.
