Police in Ogun State have launched a search for Oreoluwa Osonuga, a local farm owner who gunmen abducted in Ikenne on Sunday afternoon.

Osonuga was reportedly driving out to purchase fuel and deliver poultry products when the gunmen intercepted his vehicle and whisked him away.

His 2017 Toyota Highlander SUV was abandoned at the scene before it was later recovered by the Divisional Police Officer in Ikenne.

Sources said the kidnappers have contacted Osonuga’s family using his phone and are demanding N500 million as ransom for his release.

The Ogun State Commissioner of Police, Bode Ojajuni, confirmed the abduction late Sunday night and said the police had commenced proactive measures to rescue the victim.

The police commissioner assured the family that efforts were ongoing to locate the kidnappers and secure Osonuga’s safe release.

Osonuga is the son of Dr Osonuga Bunmi of the Department of Physiology at Olabisi Onabanjo University and Mrs Osonuga Tiwalade, a senior teacher in Ayepe, Ijebu.

He is also the son-in-law of veteran journalist Ayo Akinyemi and the nephew of Osonuga Olugbenga, popularly known as “El-Shaddai.”

The abduction has heightened concerns over the safety of residents and business owners in parts of Ogun State, as security operatives intensify efforts to track down the perpetrators.
