The Abia State Police Command has arrested a woman identified as Mrs Sarah Innocent for allegedly stabbing her husband, Innocent, to death during a misunderstanding in Ohuru Ishimiri village, Obingwa Local Government Area of the state.
The incident reportedly occurred on Saturday night, with relatives of the deceased saying the couple got married in December 2025, about eight months before the fatal incident.
Police confirm incident
The police confirmed the incident to journalists on Monday evening, saying a report of the alleged crime was received at the Ohuru Ishimiri Police Divisional Headquarters on August 9, 2026.
According to the command’s spokesperson, DSP Maureen Chinaka, the report alleged that Sarah Innocent stabbed her husband in the chest with a kitchen knife during a misunderstanding.
Chinaka said the victim was immediately rushed to a hospital for medical attention but was pronounced dead by a medical doctor.
Police arrest suspect
Following the incident, police officers visited the scene and took steps to preserve evidence as investigations into the circumstances surrounding the death commenced.
The command said the deceased’s remains had been deposited at a morgue pending an autopsy, which is expected to assist investigators in establishing the exact cause of death.
The suspect was also arrested and remains in police custody as investigators work to establish what led to the confrontation between the couple.
Investigation ongoing
Chinaka said the matter had been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation.
“Scene of the crime has been visited, the corpse deposited at the morgue for autopsy and the suspect is currently in police custody.
“Discreet investigation is ongoing at the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID),” the police spokesperson said.
The command has not disclosed further details about the circumstances that preceded the alleged stabbing, while the investigation continues.
The police are expected to establish the sequence of events that led to the death and determine the appropriate legal action based on the outcome of the investigation.
