A powerful 7.4-magnitude earthquake has struck western Colombia, leaving a trail of destruction, damaged buildings and panic as dramatic footage continues to emerge from affected areas.

The earthquake reportedly struck near San José del Palmar in Chocó on August 10 and lasted for about two minutes, sending residents running into the streets as buildings shook, debris fell and thick clouds of dust filled the air.

Street-level footage captured the immediate aftermath of the disaster, showing damaged structures, collapsing sections of buildings and residents fleeing for safety.

In Cali, the city’s HUV (University Hospital) was reportedly partially damaged, with dramatic footage showing sections of the upper floors crumbling and sending huge clouds of dust into the air. Hospital staff and bystanders could be seen reacting in panic as the structure was damaged.

More than 20 structures have reportedly collapsed in Cali, while significant damage has also been reported in Pereira, Manizales and surrounding areas.

The reported death toll has risen to at least 111 people nationwide, although authorities are expected to provide further updates as rescue and recovery operations continue.

Emergency responders and rescue teams have been deployed to affected locations and are continuing to search damaged and collapsed structures for survivors.

The scale of the destruction remains unclear as assessments continue, with more footage emerging showing the devastating impact of the powerful tremor across western Colombia.

Authorities are expected to release further information on casualties, structural damage and the ongoing rescue operations.
