A 31-year-old man has been charged with first-degree murder after allegedly stabbing a 32-year-old woman to death inside a home in Chicago’s Albany Park neighborhood in the early hours of Saturday morning, according to Chicago Police.

At approximately 1:48 a.m. on August 9, officers responded to the 4800 block of North Avers Avenue in Albany Park, where they found a 32-year-old woman unresponsive inside a home with a stab wound to the neck.

She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Arrested Nine Hours Later

Area Five Homicide Investigation Support Team detectives identified Ankur Patel, 31, of the 4800 block of North Avers Avenue as the suspect.

Patel was arrested at 11:12 a.m. on August 9, approximately nine hours after the stabbing, in the 10000 block of West O’Hare Street near O’Hare International Airport.

The 4800 block of North Avers Avenue where the stabbing occurred is the same block where Patel lives, according to the CPD press release.

The Charges

Patel faces one felony count of first-degree murder in connection with the stabbing.

A detention hearing for Patel is scheduled for August 11, 2026, at the George N. Leighton Criminal Courthouse at 2600 South California Avenue.

The victim’s identity has not yet been publicly released by the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office.
