National Mathematical Centre organises annual public service training for staff 

In its quest to improve the capacity of its human capital, the National Mathematical Centre (NMC) has activated an annual public service training for its workforce.

The training, put in place by the Registry Department of the centre seeks to ensure that a critical mass of the staff both teaching and non teaching are conversant with all aspects of the public service rules to improve their efficiency in the workplace. 

Speaking at the Opening ceremony of the event, Ag Director/ Chief Executive of the Centre, Prof Benjamin Oyelami, stressed the need and importance of proper understanding and interpretation of public service rules in order to ensure uniformity and proper guidance for staff in the implementation of the rules.

He stated that as a centre of excellence in the mathematical sciences, it was expected that the centre should serve as a focal point and guardian in the mathematical application and  implementation of the rules governing the public service knowing that rules were founded in mathematics and rules were mathematical in nature. 

He explained that there were no rules without an infusion of mathematics. 

Prof Oyelami further stated that with the extension of TETFUND training sponsorship to both teaching and non teaching staff, every employee of the centre could attend annual professional trainings to improve their competencies on the job. 

The Registrar of the Centre, Dr Bernard Azuka in his Lead paper presentation harped on the need for every staff of the Centre both teaching and non teaching to be conversant with the rules.

In pointing out the need for proper interpretation and implementation of public service rules, the registrar said rules make for orderliness and uniformity in application. 

“It therefore curbs administrative confusion,” he said.

He pointed out that workplace stability can be achieved through proper understanding, interpretation, implementation and practical application of public service rules. 

Dr Azuka urged staff to be proactive in the performance of their duties to facilitate the seamless operation of the activities of the Centre to enable it fulfill its mandate.
