The wife of the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate in Osun State, Asiwaju Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji (AMBO), Dr Sekinat Oyebamiji, former First Lady of the state, Mrs Kafayat Oyetola, former Deputy Governor, Mrs Titilayo Ponle, and other women leaders of the party have taken their campaign to the popular Orisunbare Market in Osogbo.

The women leaders embarked on a market-to-market voters’ education campaign on Monday, urging traders and residents to vote for Oyebamiji in the August 15 governorship election.

The team also included the wife of the APC deputy governorship candidate, Princess Adebukola Adereti, and the APC State Women Leader, Alhaja Kudirat Fakokunde, among other party leaders.

The engagement at Orisunbare Market attracted market leaders, traders, market women and other residents, who listened to the APC leaders as they explained the voting process and canvassed support for the party’s candidate.

Addressing the traders, Dr Oyebamiji described the visit as a homecoming, saying the APC candidate and his agenda for the state were already familiar to the market community.

“This market is homecoming for us. You are all familiar with AMBO and his agenda for our dear state. My mothers, Iyalojas, well done for your mobilisation for our party,” she said.

Oyebamiji said she had earlier dismissed claims that market women at Orisunbare would not support the APC candidate, expressing confidence in their support following their invitation to the party’s campaign team.

“I was told that market women in Orisunbare will not support us, but I refuted the claim. Now I am more confident that you are for us after inviting us here to canvass for you and educate you on where to vote,” she said.

She said the traders had invited the APC team to further explain the party’s agenda, particularly its plans for economic development and women empowerment.

“You have received the message of AMBO and you only want to hear it clearer by inviting us here today. I am confident that the PROPER agenda will accommodate women, especially traders, largely because we can’t talk about prosperity without you,” Oyebamiji said.

She urged the traders to mobilise massively for the APC candidate, stressing that their votes would be crucial to determining the outcome of the election.

“I want to tell you that AMBO is the answer to the economic reform of Osun State for prosperity,” she said.

“Please go out en masse to cast your vote for AMBO. While going to polling units, don’t go alone but take along six people to cast their votes for APC. This vote must be massive. Don’t listen to their propaganda and don’t fight them.”

The former First Lady, Mrs Kafayat Oyetola, also displayed a specimen ballot paper to the market women and explained how they could identify the APC on the ballot.

She urged the traders to vote for the party, stressing that the name and photograph of the APC candidate would not appear on the ballot paper, but the party’s logo would.

“You will not see the picture of AMBO on the ballot but APC with its logo. Vote for us and you will not regret it. I can assure you,” Oyetola said.

Earlier, the Babaloja of Orisunbare Market, Chief Qamarudeen Adeoti, assured the APC team of the traders’ support.

Adeoti, who criticised the administration of the Accord Party in the state, said the government had failed to meet the expectations of traders and residents.

He expressed confidence that the APC candidate would provide better governance if elected on August 15.

The campaign team subsequently continued its engagement with traders and other residents in the market, urging them to participate peacefully in the election and support the APC candidate.
