Operatives of the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) have rescued 15 kidnap victims in Kogi state, recovered firearms and ammunition, arrested suspected criminals and the foiled a bandit attack in Benue state am9bg others the Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Anietie Iniedu, disclosed in a state-by-state summary of police operational successes for August 11, 2026.

The Spokesperson noted that the Kogi State Police Command led security operatives on a mission to rescue 15 kidnap victims following an intelligence-led operation and extensive bush combing on August 10.

According to CSP Anietie, the operatives engaged suspected  kidnappers in a gun duel, neutralising some of the perpetrators, while others escaped with gunshot injuries.

He said the rescued victims were subsequently debriefed and reunited with their families; adding that the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Lokoja, was carrying out further investigation into the incident.

“In Benue state, police tactical operatives foiled a bandit attack at Tse Udi Community, Tombo Council Ward, on August 10. The operatives reportedly engaged the attackers in a fierce gun battle, neutralised one of the bandits while others fled into the forest.

“An AK-47 rifle loaded with 17 rounds of live ammunition was recovered from the scene. The SCID, Makurdi, is investigating,” the FPRO stated.

“In Bayelsa state, police arrested a suspect in connection with the fatal shooting of a man at Inburutoru, Nembe, on August 9.

“A double-barrel gun and an empty cartridge were recovered from the suspect, who, alongside the exhibits, was handed over to the SCID in Yenagoa for discreet investigation.

“Similarly, in Ekiti State, four suspected cultists were arrested in Efon-Alaaye on August 10.  A search of one of the suspects’ residences led to the recovery of a locally-made pistol, axes, cutlasses and knives. The suspects are being investigated by the SCID, Ado-Ekiti.

“In Ondo state, police detectives acting on credible intelligence arrested a suspect who was allegedly attempting to sell a stolen Mercedes-Benz GLK at Kajola.

“The ash-coloured vehicle was recovered, while the suspect reportedly confessed during interrogation to stealing it from his employer in Lagos. The case has been transferred to the SCID, Akure, for further investigation.

“In Enugu state, police detectives arrested a suspected armed robbery operative at a hotel in Udenu Local Government Area following information about a suspicious lodger.

“One locally-made pistol and a live cartridge were recovered from the suspect, who reportedly confessed to being a member of a robbery gang. Police said efforts are ongoing to apprehend his fleeing accomplices,” the Spokesperson disclosed.

The FPRO further disclosed that, “In Lagos state, police operatives and firefighters successfully brought a fire outbreak at Itire under control after a residential bungalow was consumed by fire.

“The police said no casualty or loss of life was recorded in the incident, which occurred on August 9.

“The latest operational update underscores the Police Force’s continued efforts to combat kidnapping, banditry, cultism, armed robbery, violent crime and other security threats across the country.

“The NPF urge members of the public to continue providing credible information to security agencies to support ongoing efforts to protect lives and property.”
