The police command in Ondo state has arrested Solomon Onaola, 27-year-old man, over the alleged rape of a 15-year-old domestic worker in Omifon, Odigbo LGA.
In a statement on Tuesday, Abayomi Jimoh, police spokesperson in Ondo, said the girl’s guardian reported the incident at the Odigbo divisional police station after noticing that the teenager had repeatedly left home without permission.
According to Jimoh, the girl was questioned about her whereabouts during those occasions and disclosed that Onaola had been taking her to his late mother’s residence in Omifon, where he allegedly had unlawful sexual intercourse with her.
“She disclosed that the suspect, Solomon Onaola, had been taking her to his late mother’s residence in Omifon, where he allegedly engaged in unlawful sexual intercourse with her,” the statement reads.
Jimoh said the report prompted police operatives to begin an investigation, leading to Onaola’s arrest.
He said the case was subsequently transferred to the command’s gender-based offences unit for discreet investigation.
The police spokesperson added that the survivor had been placed under appropriate care, while the command was taking necessary steps in line with established procedures for cases involving alleged sexual offences against minors.
Jimoh said Onaola remains in police custody and will be charged to court after the investigation is concluded.
