The Planned Parenthood Federation of Nigeria has reiterated its commitment to supporting Nigerian mothers and families by providing expert guidance, practical support, and a judgment-free environment.

This reaffirmation was made by the Commercial Marketing Advisor of the Planned Parenthood Federation of Nigeria, Obinna Nwogu, on Monday, via a press statement made available to Arewa PUNCH.

In the statement, Nwogu, while hailing the successful commemoration of the World Breastfeeding Week 2026, observed globally from August 1st to 7th, stressed that “Breastfeeding remains one of the most effective interventions for improving child survival and maternal health.”

The occasion, our correspondent gathered, held with a series of impactful events and enhanced services across PPFN upgraded clinics in Abuja, Minna, Lagos, and Ibadan.

Nwogu noted that under this year’s theme, “Breastfeeding for a Sustainable Start in Life: Strengthen What Works,” the Planned Parenthood Federation of Nigeria Clinics reaffirmed their commitment to supporting mothers and families by providing expert guidance, practical support, and a judgment-free environment.

Nwogu, who further noted that Nigerian mothers continue to face challenges in achieving optimal breastfeeding practices, often due to a lack of professional support and the demands of modern life, pointed out that the PPFN is responding to this need by transforming its clinics into supportive, resource-rich environments where mothers can receive confidential, affordable, and expert guidance on their breastfeeding journey.

The Commercial Marketing Advisor disclosed that throughout the World Breastfeeding Week, PPFN upgraded state of the art Clinics in Lagos, Abuja, Ibadan, and Minna and every other PPFN clinics nationwide hosted a series of events that empowered mothers and promoted infant health.

He mentioned the series of events held to include: “the Breastfeeding Support and Counselling Sessions: Expert nurses and trained staff provided practical guidance on latching, positioning, and overcoming common breastfeeding challenges to dozens of mothers.

“Clinic Open House and Tours: Families toured the upgraded, modern facilities, experiencing first-hand the comfortable and private spaces available for maternal and child health services.

“Free Health Screenings: Mothers and babies received essential health checks, including blood pressure and BMI screenings.

“E-Health App Demonstrations: Staff provided on-site assistance to help families download the PPFN E-Health App, enabling them to access virtual consultations and expert health advice from the convenience of their homes.

Staff “My Commitment to Mothers” Challenge: PPFN staff across Nigeria participated in a creative social media challenge, sharing heartfelt messages, breastfeeding tips, and personal stories of supporting mothers. The challenge generated significant engagement and showcased the depth of care that defines PPFN.”

In a message from the Executive Director at PPFN, Dr. Okai Abubakar Haruna Aku, he assured that in a world where mothers often feel unsupported, the healthcare organisation is stepping in to bridge the gap.

“Our upgraded clinics are not just about offering healthcare; they are creating a safe, welcoming community for mothers.

“We are strengthening the ‘Warm Chain of Support’ by providing hands-on care, accurate information, and a judgment-free space that families can trust.”

The statement which further read in parts noted that, “research underscores the importance of strengthening the quality of breastfeeding counseling in healthcare facilities to support mothers effectively, therefore the PPFN’s comprehensive approach ensures that support doesn’t end at the clinic door but continues through digital and community outreach.”
