Nigeria have secured a place in the semifinals of the 2026 African U18 Beach Volleyball Development Cup in Senegal on Wednesday, August 12.

The Nigerian women’s team defeated Mozambique 2-0 (21-15, 21-17), maintaining their unbeaten run in the group stage.

Coach of Nigeria women’s team, John Iwerima, praised the players for their tactical discipline and impressive performance.

The former international said the girls have demonstrated a high level of tactical play and believes they are only getting started at the Development Cup.

He said: “The girls have demonstrated a high level of tactical play. This is just the beginning for them, and I believe they will continue to improve as the tournament progresses.”

Iwerima explained that the major objective of Nigeria’s participation in the competition is to expose the young players to international competition and prepare them for bigger challenges ahead.

He said: “Our main goal is to expose these players and prepare them for the major tasks ahead. This tournament is an important platform for their development and experience.”

The ex-international added that winning the tournament would be a significant achievement for both the players and the Nigeria Volleyball Federation.

He said: “Winning the tournament will be an addition to the profile of not only the players but also the Federation.”
