Abuja-based legal practitioner, Deji Adeyanju, has urged the British Government to impose a visa ban on Senator Francis Fadahunsi and members of his family over alleged comments threatening members of the Accord Party ahead of the Osun State governorship election.

Adeyanju, in a letter dated August 11, 2026, and addressed to the British High Commissioner in Abuja, said the request was in line with the United Kingdom’s commitment to protecting democracy, free will and universal suffrage.

The letter was received at the British High Commission in Abuja on August 12, 2026, according to a copy obtained by our correspondent on Wednesday

Adeyanju in the letter said the senator, a member of the All Progressives Congress, was allegedly captured in a video addressing supporters in Yoruba and making remarks about members of the Accord Party.

According to Adeyanju, the translation of the remarks published by two media platforms (Not PUNCH Online) stated: “From now on till the election day, whenever you see them (Accord Party members), kill them.”

He said copies of the publications, as well as a flash drive containing the alleged video recording of the remarks, were attached to the letter for reference.

Adeyanju urged the British authorities to take action against the senator, arguing that Nigerian politicians had for too long acted with impunity.

“For far too long, Nigerian politicians have acted with impunity in a manner that has subverted the will of the Nigerian people, undermined the rule of law, and caused substantial loss of lives and property of ordinary Nigerians.

“We use this medium to urge you to send a strong message to each and every one of them,” he said.
The lawyer further appealed to the United Kingdom to consider stronger measures against Nigerians who undermine Nigeria’s democratic process.

“We hope that in the future the United Kingdom will consider the seizure of assets and the foreclosure of business interests of Nigerians who actively undermine the nation’s constitutional democratic process,” he said.

Fadahunsi, who represents Osun East Senatorial District, is a member of the ruling All Progressives Congress.

His alleged comments were made at a campaign rally amid tensions and heightened political activities ahead of the Osun State governorship election slated for Saturday, August 15.

Meanwhile, the Osun State Police Command had summoned the senator to its office over the comments, which Fadahunsi honoured.

He has, however, been released after he was seen leaving the police facility with an entourage in a video shared by News Central.

Details of the interrogation remained unclear, as neither the police nor the senator had issued an official statement as of the time of filing this report.

The State Criminal Investigation Department described the alleged remarks as threatening and inciting, saying they were capable of heightening tension ahead of the Osun State governorship election scheduled for Saturday.
