Super Eagles winger Ademola Lookman will wear the No. 11 shirt for Atletico Madrid during the 2026/27 season after switching from the No. 22 jersey he wore during his first months at the Spanish club.
Lookman joined Atletico Madrid from Italian Serie A side Atalanta in January and quickly established himself as an important member of the squad.
The Nigeria international’s change of shirt number comes ahead of the new campaign and sees him take over a jersey previously worn by Argentina international Thiago Almada.
Lookman takes over Almada’s number
Lookman has been handed the No. 11 shirt previously occupied by Almada, who recently completed a move to River Plate.
The departure of the Argentine midfielder left the number available ahead of the 2026/27 campaign, allowing Lookman to make the switch from No. 22.
The 28-year-old will now begin his first full season at Atletico Madrid wearing the No. 11 shirt, a number with which he is already familiar.
Winger familiar with No. 11
Lookman previously wore the No. 11 shirt during his spell with Atalanta, where he developed into one of the most productive attacking players in Italian football.
His return to the number at Atletico Madrid gives him an opportunity to continue his association with the shirt as he seeks to make an even greater impact in Spain.
His versatility, pace and ability to operate from wide positions made him an important attacking option for Atletico after his January arrival.
Lookman impresses at Atletico
The Nigerian enjoyed a productive opening spell at Atletico Madrid last season despite joining the club midway through the campaign.
He scored nine goals and provided four assists in 24 appearances across all competitions.
His contributions helped him make a strong impression at the former Spanish champions and raised expectations ahead of his first full season with the club.
Nigeria star targets bigger impact
With the new season approaching, Lookman will be expected to build on his promising start and play a significant role in Atletico Madrid’s campaign.
The winger will also remain an important player for the Super Eagles, with his performances at club level closely watched as Nigeria prepare for upcoming international assignments.
Wearing the No. 11 shirt could mark the beginning of another productive chapter for Lookman as he seeks to establish himself as one of Atletico Madrid’s leading attacking players.
