Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has appealed to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), security agencies, and political actors to ensure a peaceful and credible governorship election in Osun State.

In a statement shared on his official social media page, Obi emphasized that residents must be allowed to freely choose their leaders without intimidation or violence.

He urged all stakeholders, including INEC, political parties, candidates, and security agencies to remain neutral and professional throughout the process.

“The people of Osun must be allowed to vote freely, safely, and without intimidation. Their votes must be counted transparently, protected faithfully, and announced according to the genuine will of the electorate,” Obi stated.

He cautioned against politicians or supporters turning communities against one another and warned external actors not to import violence into the state.

Obi stressed that loyalty should be to Nigeria and the Constitution, not to individuals or parties.

The former governor also charged INEC to uphold credibility at every stage from accreditation and voting to collation and declaration of results while urging international observers and diplomatic missions to closely monitor proceedings to boost public confidence.

Obi concluded by calling for an election that demonstrates leadership change through ballots, not bloodshed: “Let every vote count. Let every voter be protected. Let every legitimate result be respected. And above all, let peace reign in Osun State. Nigeria is watching. Africa is watching. The world is watching.”
