The Sokoto State Government has approved N1.759 billion for the procurement of 1,000 Bajaj motorcycles for distribution to security agencies as part of measures to strengthen operations against banditry and other criminal activities across the state.

The approval was one of the resolutions reached at the sixth regular meeting of the Sokoto State Executive Council for 2026, chaired by the Deputy Governor, Idris Muhammad Gobir, in Sokoto.

According to a statement issued by the Director-General, Media and Publicity, Government House, Abubakar Bawa, on Wednesday, the motorcycles are expected to complement the state’s recent procurement of 62 armoured vehicles valued at N27 billion.

The statement said the vehicles had already been distributed to security agencies to enhance their operational capacity, particularly in areas affected by banditry.

The government said the additional motorcycles would provide security personnel with greater mobility and improve their ability to access difficult terrains during security operations.

Beyond security, the council approved several projects aimed at improving education, healthcare, water supply and vocational training across the state.

It approved N723.17 million for the renovation of Government Technical College, Runjin Sambo, while N498.99 million was approved for the rehabilitation of A.A. Raji Special School.

Similarly, N489.32 million was approved for the renovation of Phase I of the College of Nursing Sciences, while N229.36 million was approved for the renovation of male and female hostels at the College of Basic and Remedial Studies.

The council also approved N174.64 million for the renovation of staff quarters and the upgrading of the perimeter fence at the College of Agriculture and Animal Science, Wurno.

Other approvals included N133.67 million for the construction of a perimeter fence at Wamakko Primary Health Centre and N93.88 million for the procurement of vocational learning equipment for 46 women’s vocational centres across the state’s 23 local government areas.

The council further approved N90.21 million for the purchase of PVC pipes and plumbing fittings for the maintenance of 142 semi-urban water supply schemes across the state.

Bawa said the approvals reflected the administration’s continued commitment to addressing security and developmental needs across Sokoto State.

He added that the executive council meeting lasted about two hours.
