Minister of Works, David Umahi, has said the administration of President Bola Tinubu is taking deliberate steps to address what he described as the developmental imbalance affecting the South-East.

Umahi made the statement while highlighting ongoing federal infrastructure projects across the region, urging residents to assess the government based on the projects being delivered rather than political sentiments.

The minister said the South-East should recognise the renewed attention being given to infrastructure in the region, insisting that the projects reflect President Tinubu’s desire to strengthen the region’s integration into the national development plan.

According to Umahi, his support for the administration has attracted criticism from some people in the South-East, but he maintained that he would continue to speak about the government’s efforts regardless of the backlash.

He said he believes he was positioned at the Ministry of Works at a critical time to communicate the Federal Government’s commitment to addressing longstanding infrastructure concerns in the region.

Umahi further stated that his position as Minister of Works had helped attract several projects to the South-East, describing the development as part of President Tinubu’s directive to correct past shortcomings in the region.

He therefore called on residents to look beyond political differences and pay attention to the impact of ongoing road and other infrastructure projects, which he said demonstrate the administration’s intention to give the South-East a stronger place in the country’s development agenda.

The minister’s comments come amid continuing debates over the level of federal government investment and political inclusion in the South-East.
