The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has intensified its enforcement drive against the sale of alcoholic drinks packaged in sachets and small PET bottles, partnering with the Ogun State Police Command to safeguard public health.

Deputy Superintendent of Police Oluseyi Babaseyi announced the collaboration via the command’s official X handle, confirming that NAFDAC’s Ogun State Coordinator, Mr. Akinwale Fagoroye, led a delegation to meet Commissioner of Police Bode Ojajuni at the command headquarters in Abeokuta.

Fagoroye explained that the mop-up exercise, which began in Abeokuta, will extend across the state until full compliance is achieved. 

The operation targets alcoholic beverages packaged in sachets and PET bottles below 200ml, which authorities say pose significant health risks due to their affordability and accessibility to minors.

He urged manufacturers, importers, distributors, retailers, and consumers to cooperate with NAFDAC officials, stressing that the campaign is designed to reduce harmful consumption patterns among young people. 

Enforcement teams are inspecting markets, motor parks, bars, warehouses, and factories, with powers to seize fake, unregistered, adulterated, or expired products.

Commissioner Ojajuni commended NAFDAC’s efforts and pledged continued police support, noting that the crackdown aligns with enforcement of the Liquor Act and other laws regulating alcohol distribution. 

He emphasized that the joint operation aims to curb unlawful sales and protect residents from unsafe products.

Ojajuni further encouraged the public to report suspected fake or unsafe alcoholic beverages, assuring that the police remain committed to supporting lawful regulatory actions that promote public safety and well-being.
