Cameroon have won the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) for the first time after defeating debutants Malawi 3-0 in the final in Rabat, Morocco, on Sunday.

The Indomitable Lionesses produced a dominant first-half display at the Moulay El Hassan Stadium, scoring all three goals before the break to settle the contest.

Marie Ngah opened the scoring in the 20th minute with a header before Naomi Ndjoah Eto doubled Cameroon’s advantage around the half-hour mark.

Ngah then struck again in first-half stoppage time to complete her brace and give Cameroon a commanding 3-0 lead at the interval.

Malawi, appearing in their first-ever WAFCON final, improved after the restart but could not find a way back into the game as Cameroon held on comfortably to secure the continental crown.

The victory ended Cameroon’s wait for a first WAFCON title after three previous final defeats to Nigeria in 2004, 2014 and 2016.

Cameroon’s triumph also made them the fourth country to win the women’s continental title, joining record 10-time champions Nigeria, Equatorial Guinea and South Africa.

For Malawi, the defeat brought an end to a remarkable campaign in which the Scorchers reached the final on their tournament debut. They had stunned defending champions Nigeria in the group stage before eliminating Ghana and Algeria in the knockout rounds.

Cameroon’s victory also means they have now joined Nigeria and South Africa as nations to have won both the men’s and women’s Africa Cup of Nations.
