Nigerian music star David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has explained why he does not want to be involved in Nigerian politics, describing the country’s political environment as “evil.”
Davido made the remarks in a social media post while reacting to criticism surrounding his support for his family during the recently concluded Osun State governorship election.
Davido defends support for family
The singer said he stood by his family without bringing anyone into the political process or receiving assistance from others.
“I brought no one! No one defended me! I backed my family on my own!!” Davido wrote.
He said he had fulfilled his responsibility to his family by supporting his uncle, Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke, during the election.
Singer attacks critics
Davido criticised those who attacked or condemned his involvement, describing them as “ruthless” and “disgusting.”
The singer maintained that his decision to support his family was personal and that he had not relied on others during the political process.
“I have done my job! Nigerian politics is evil AND I DON’T WANT TO BE A PART OF IT TILL GOD HELPS US!” he said.
His comments indicate his intention to distance himself from further political activities despite his previous public involvement in political discussions and elections.
Adeleke wins Osun election
Davido had been vocal in his support for Adeleke, who contested the Osun governorship election under the platform of the Accord Party.
Adeleke won the election with 511,067 votes, defeating the All Progressives Congress candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, who polled 444,815 votes.
The victory secured Adeleke a second term as governor of Osun State, while Davido celebrated the result and continued to defend his family amid political exchanges during the election period.
The singer’s latest statement has since attracted reactions on social media, particularly because of his decision to publicly support his uncle during the election before announcing that he does not want to remain involved in Nigerian politics.
