The Federal Capital Territory Court, sitting in Maitama, Abuja Monday ordered the Nigerian Police Force to produce before it on the next adjourned date two detainees, Alhaji Muhammed and Bashir Ibrahim Lambo who have reportedly been in police custody for some weeks now.

While giving a fresh order in a suit FCT/HC/CV/3554/26 filed against the Inspector General of Police and others, the presiding judge, Justice Aminu Abdulahi gave order that the applicants be made to appear in court unfailingly on the 9th September 2026, when hearing on application before it would be heard.

At the resumed hearing, counsel to the Applicant, Sani Sajo argued that as directed by the judge at the last adjourned date that Respondent were served but still failed to produce the applicant in court

Sajo also expressed worries that the respondents have also refused to show cause why the applicant should still remain in their custody.

“Nothwithstanding the fact that they were served since the 11th August, 2026 with the originating summon and the rest. My Lord, the Respondent still disobey and refused to comply with the court order, hence have no cause to be heard.

“Citing the Supreme Court and Appeal Court positions and declarations on similar issue, Sajo submitted that the Respondent should not be granted audience by the court.

“This matter has to do with liberty and freedom of movement. My Lord, I want the court to grant the applicants bail. We are ready to face trial.” He said.

Sajo held further that since other suspects connected to the matter were walking freely, he prayed to the court that the 1st and 2nd applicants be granted bail.

However, while countering the position of the Applicants counsel, counsel to the police, Wisdom Madaki said he got the court processes on Friday, saying he tried to contact the police IPO who told him they have travelled to Imo state to arrest the third accused person.

He told the court that they had prepared both their preliminary objection and counter affidavit in respect of the case.

Madaki then sought short adjournment to be able to carry out necessary filings to aid his arguments.

Meanwhile, while giving his own defence, counsel to the 8th Respondent, Orji Peter told the court that they were served recently.

He said his client is still within time for defence and that their time has not elapsed.

In a short ruling, Justice Abdulahi held: “I want to see the applicants in court unfailingly at the next adjourned date,”

He subsequently fixed 9th September for them to appear before him and to hear pending applications before it.
