Veteran Nigerian actor Taiwo Hassan, popularly known as Ogogo, has been diagnosed with stage 4 cancer.
The development was disclosed by his daughter, Shaki Taiwo, in a viral video shared on Instagram on Monday night, where she appealed to members of the public for medical assistance for her father.
Shaki, who appeared emotional while making the appeal, said the actor’s condition had become critical and that the hospital handling his treatment had stopped further medical intervention.
Hospital stops Ogogo’s treatment
According to Shaki, doctors treating the veteran actor informed the family that they could no longer continue his treatment because of the severity of his condition.
She specifically said the hospital had stopped administering chemotherapy to the actor.
“Hello, everyone. I’m here for my daddy. He has cancer and it is at stage 4. The hospital is saying that they cannot treat him again and that they can’t give him chemo again,” she said.
Shaki explained that the family was not primarily seeking financial donations but was looking for someone or an institution capable of providing medical assistance to her father.
She appealed to anyone with the expertise, resources or access to appropriate cancer treatment to come to the family’s aid.
Daughter appeals for medical help
The actor’s daughter said Ogogo was in pain and emotionally distressed as he battles the illness.
She urged people who knew specialists or facilities capable of treating cancer to assist the family, stressing that her father wanted to continue living.
“My daddy doesn’t want to die. Please, I don’t want my daddy to die. He’s in pain. He’s not happy,” she said.
Shaki added that the family would appreciate any form of legitimate medical assistance that could help improve the actor’s condition.
She also clarified that the family was not coming forward simply to solicit money.
According to her, the family had already received financial support from Senator Yayi, whom she appreciated for footing the actor’s medical bills.
Senator Yayi supports actor’s treatment
Shaki acknowledged the assistance provided by Senator Yayi, saying he had been responsible for settling the medical expenses associated with Ogogo’s treatment.
She, however, said the family’s immediate concern was finding additional medical options for the actor following the hospital’s decision to discontinue his treatment.
“If you can treat my daddy medically or traditionally, please, I’m begging in the name of God, help us,” she appealed.
Her comments have since generated reactions from fans, colleagues and members of the public, many of whom have expressed concern over the veteran actor’s health.
Family discovered diagnosis recently
In a separate Instagram post, Ogogo’s second daughter, Haleemah, revealed that the family was unaware of their father’s cancer diagnosis until about three weeks ago.
The disclosure has added another dimension to the family’s appeal, as they seek urgent assistance to explore available treatment options for the actor.
Haleemah’s statement suggested that the family had only recently been confronted with the seriousness of the illness and its progression.
The daughters have therefore continued to appeal for support from people who may be able to provide appropriate medical intervention.
Ogogo’s career in Nigerian entertainment
Ogogo is one of the prominent figures in Nigeria’s Yoruba film industry and has enjoyed a long career as an actor.
Over the years, he has featured in numerous Yoruba-language films and television productions, earning recognition among audiences for his distinctive acting style and memorable roles.
His career has made him a familiar face within the Nigerian entertainment industry, particularly among followers of Yoruba cinema.
News of his health condition has consequently attracted widespread attention, with fans and colleagues expressing concern and wishing him recovery.
Family seeks further intervention
With the actor reportedly battling stage 4 cancer, his family is now seeking further medical intervention that could help manage his condition.
Shaki’s appeal was directed at anyone with knowledge of effective cancer treatment or access to specialists who may be able to assess and assist her father.
The family’s request comes after the reported decision by the hospital to discontinue chemotherapy and other treatment.
As the appeal continues to circulate online, the actor’s daughters are hoping that medical professionals or organisations with the necessary expertise will come forward to offer assistance.
For now, the family remains focused on finding additional care for Ogogo and supporting him through his battle with the illness.
