The Social Democratic Party (SDP) governorship candidate in Oyo state, Mogaji Olusegun Agboola, Tuesday, tasked Nigerian voters to resist intimidation and entrenched political interests.

Mogaji Agboola gave the task in Ibadan at the party’s stakeholders’ meeting held at the SDP secretariat in New Bodija, where he was formally introduced to party members and stakeholders as the governorship candidate.

He cited the last Saturday’s Osun state governorship election as an example of the need for voters to resist political intimidation and entrenched political interests.

“We also saw what happened in Osun state a few days ago, where one person stood against so many governors that left their own states to come and intimidate them,” he said.

Mogaji Agboola added, “But we all know who won the election. And the president was quick to congratulate the winner.”

The governorship candidate added that SDP is actually the home of the true progressives in the country, saying, SDP stands as a platform with roots in the Nigeria’s progressive political tradition and that the party’s history and political heritage made it necessary for Nigerians to reconsider the direction of contemporary politics.

“I will surprise you that many don’t know that SDP, for example, remains the oldest progressive party in Nigeria. Just look at that alone. Many don’t associate SDP with June 12. But we all know that if it was not for the sacrifice of the entire Abiola family, MKO Abiola, Simbiat Abiola and the entire family, there wouldn’t be a June 12 holiday today.

“SDP is actually the home of the true progressives. President Bola Tinubu and the incumbent Oyo state governor, Seyi Makinde, had at different times been associated with the SDP,” he said.
