Media entrepreneur and former Nigerian Senator Ben Murray-Bruce has called on President Bola Tinubu to appoint more “Mad men” into his administration, individuals he describes as results-oriented who are ready to challenge entrenched interests and address Nigeria’s systemic issues.

Murray-Bruce, a former People’s Democratic Party (PDP) governorship aspirant, made this appeal through an open letter published on his X account on Wednesday.

He emphasised that while he supports the current administration, his backing does not preclude him from critiquing policies or suggesting improvements that could benefit the country.

The former senator explained that by “mad men,” he refers to individuals willing to confront flawed systems, oppose powerful interests, and reject mediocrity in pursuit of tangible results.

He cited the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Olayemi Cardoso, and National Security Adviser (NSA) Nuhu Ribadu as examples of officials demonstrating the seriousness and resolve needed to tackle Nigeria’s challenges.

“Look at the Central Bank under Olayemi Cardoso. Despite disagreements over policies, there is no doubt that the institution has undergone a significant reset, with discipline and credibility restored to monetary policymaking. That is one mad man,” Murray-Bruce remarked.

He also commended the NSA, noting that Ribadu had brought “seriousness, coordination, and strategic direction” to Nigeria’s security architecture. “That is another mad man,” he added.

However, Murray-Bruce pointed out that two such officials are insufficient for a nation of over 200 million people.

He urged President Tinubu to appoint at least two more “mad men” to spearhead reforms, particularly in the oil sector—calling for the rehabilitation and operational viability of the Port Harcourt, Warri, and Kaduna refineries, and criticising previous explanations concerning turnaround maintenance, contractors, technical reviews, and timelines.
