Ariana Grande has hit back at Donald Trump’s campaign team after it used her music in a controversial TikTok video promoting the administration’s stance on transgender issues.
The Grammy-winning singer responded after Team Trump’s official TikTok account used her 2024 song We Can’t Be Friends (Wait for Your Love) over footage of Trump during a 2024 rally at Madison Square Garden.
The video, which addressed the debate over transgender people in the United States, featured text referencing Grande’s lyrics while promoting the administration’s opposition to transgender women competing in women’s sports.
The post quickly sparked backlash, with Grande eventually responding directly in the comment section.
“Never use my music again,” the singer wrote, before adding, “Also, your truth is false.”
The TikTok, which has since gained hundreds of thousands of views, was posted by Team Trump, the official account run by the president’s campaign social media team.
Sources close to the campaign said the video was not posted by Trump himself or the White House.
Meanwhile, a source close to Grande told the Daily Mail that her record label, Republic Records, was working to remove the song from the post.
This is not the first time Grande has objected to her music being used in Trump-related content.
Earlier this year, she criticised the White House after her 2024 song Bye was used in a video highlighting arrests carried out by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).
“Please do not ever use my music in relation to this barbaric, inhumane, heinous nonsense,” Grande wrote at the time.
Grande has been open about her political views and supported Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris during the 2024 election cycle.
She has also previously backed LGBTQ+ causes, including donating to organisations supporting transgender youth.
