The Kwara State Signage and Advertisement Agency (KWASAA), in collaboration with the Advertising Regulatory Council of Nigeria (ARCON), would hold a one-day stakeholders’ engagement on advertisement and campaign communications ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The engagement is scheduled to hold at the Ilorin Innovation Hub, Ahmadu Bello Way, Ilorin, by 10:00 a.m.
Speaking at a press conference held at the Ministry of Communications, the Acting General Manager of KWASAA, Oloruntoba Akin Adeyeye, said the meeting would bring together political parties, political actors, advertising practitioners, media organisations, security agencies and other relevant stakeholders in the advertising and political communication ecosystem.
Adeyeye said the engagement became necessary to create a common understanding of the rules guiding political advertising, campaign communications and the use of public spaces for advertisements as the 2027 electioneering period approaches.
He noted that the forum would provide an opportunity for stakeholders to understand applicable regulatory requirements, address concerns and clarify issues relating to permits, campaign advertisements, billboards, signage and other forms of political communication.
The Acting GM added that security agencies and other stakeholders would also have the chance to raise concerns within their areas of responsibility, while practitioners and political actors would engage directly with regulatory authorities.
Adeyeye emphasised that KWASAA’s responsibility goes beyond revenue generation, stressing the agency’s commitment to ensuring that advertising activities in the state promote professionalism, public safety, environmental aesthetics and compliance with the law.
He expressed concern over possible proliferation of unauthorised campaign materials and structures during the election period, adding that early engagement, education and collaboration were essential to prevent violations and ensure a well-regulated advertising environment.
The Acting GM urged all stakeholders, particularly political parties, candidates, advertising practitioners, media organisations and security agencies, to attend the engagement.
“Our objective is not to create unnecessary barriers but to ensure that everyone understands the rules and operates within the established regulatory framework,” he said.
He expressed optimism that the engagement would strengthen collaboration among stakeholders and contribute to a peaceful, orderly and professionally regulated advertising environment ahead of the 2027 general elections.
