A campaign group, Agba Imole Renewed Hope Agenda, has asked President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to intervene in the crisis rocking the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ondo State.
The Southwest Coordinator of the Social-Political group, Otunba Aderemi Daniel Adebiyi, said the crisis in the state can affect the chances of President Tinubu and other candidates of the state in next year’s election.
Addressing a press conference in Akure, the Ondo State capital, Adebiyi frowned at the litigation filed by the Commissioner for Finance, Mrs Omowummi Isaac, against some leaders of the party in Owo Local Government Area of the state.
Also, Adebiyi asked President Tinubu to provide firm leadership, political direction and moral authority required to preserve unity, discipline, accountability and stability within the APC in the state.
The group, consisting of men above 55 years and above urged President Tinubu to deploy his vast experience, political sagacity and statesmanship to prevent unnecessary division and eliminate hypocrisy and deception.
The group also asked Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa to make governance more inclusive through wider consultation with stakeholders, party leaders and constitutional office holders.
The Agba Imole Renewed Hope Agenda asked Aiyedatiwa to initiate genuine reconciliation among aggrieved APC stakeholders to restore confidence and unity within the party.
The group sought a comprehensive review of the conduct, influence and activities of all political appointees to ensure that no individual exercises authority beyond constitutional limits and that, where a public official is found to have abused office, disciplinary action should be taken without fear or favour.
Adebiyi said the state government should immediately provide full clarification regarding the reported increase in security votes and other major areas of public expenditure and that the constitutional authority and strategic office of the Deputy Governor should be fully respected.
The group decried the growing dominance of the Finance Commissioner and said no Commissioner, regardless of competence or proximity to the Governor, should become so influential that elected officials, party leaders, public servants and stakeholders begin to question where the governmental authority resides.
Adebiyi said the Governor should not keep silent while divisions continue to degenerate into public hostility. He added that leadership requires decisive intervention, reconciliation and discipline.
