Five male adults have died following an accident involving a Toyota Camry and Iveco truck on the Lagos-Badagry expressway in Lagos.

Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, permanent secretary of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), said the crash occurred in the early hours of Saturday at Sawmill, near Mowo Bus Stop.

According to NAN, Oke-Osanyintolu said the accident was caused by “over-speeding and reckless driving” by the Toyota Camry driver.

He said investigations showed that the Toyota, with registration number FKJ 630KS, reportedly lost control, veered into the opposite lane and collided head-on with an oncoming Iveco truck marked T28081 LA.

Oke-Osanyintolu said LASEMA’s Dolphin Team and two tow trucks were deployed to evacuate the vehicles and restore normal traffic flow.

He said the vehicles were taken to Morogbo police division after the operation, while the road was cleared and reopened to traffic.

He added that the victims’ remains were recovered and handed over to officials of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC).

“The remains of the victims were carefully recovered, bagged with dignity, and handed over to officials of the Federal Road Safety Corps,” he said.

Oke-Osanyintolu further urged motorists to avoid speeding, wrongful overtaking and other dangerous driving practices, especially in the early morning.
