Chelsea have secured the long-term future of striker Joao Pedro after the Brazilian forward signed a new contract that will keep him at Stamford Bridge until 2032, with an option for a further two years.

The new agreement comes just a year after Chelsea paid Brighton £60 million to bring the forward to London, with the club eager to protect one of their biggest attacking investments.

Joao Pedro enjoyed an impressive first season with the Blues, scoring 20 goals and quickly becoming one of the key figures in Chelsea’s attack.

The 24-year-old expressed his delight at extending his stay, saying he always dreamed of playing for a major club and feels at home at Chelsea.

“I am very happy to sign a new contract with Chelsea. I always dreamed of playing for a big club, and it means a lot to me to give my long-term commitment to this club,” he said.

The new deal also comes amid reports of interest from Barcelona, with Chelsea determined to keep hold of the striker as they begin a new era under manager Xabi Alonso.

The Blues will open their Premier League campaign against Fulham on Monday as they look to build on Joao Pedro’s impressive debut season.
