Victor Osimhen has moved into third position on Galatasaray’s all-time list of highest-scoring foreign players following his impressive performance in the club’s 4-0 victory over Erzurum FK on Friday night.
The Nigeria international scored twice as Okan Buruk’s side secured a convincing win in the Turkish Super Lig, taking his tally for the club to 62 goals.
Osimhen overtakes Milan Baros
Osimhen’s brace saw him move ahead of former Czech Republic international Milan Baros on Galatasaray’s foreign goalscorers’ chart.
Baros scored 61 goals during his time with the Turkish giants, while Osimhen has now registered 62 goals in just 76 appearances for the club.
The 27-year-old has also contributed 16 assists during his time at Galatasaray, underlining his importance to the reigning Turkish champions.
Only Icardi and Hagi ahead of Osimhen
Osimhen now sits behind only two legendary names on Galatasaray’s foreign goalscorers’ list.
Former Argentina international Mauro Icardi leads the ranking with 77 goals, while Romanian great Gheorghe Hagi is second with 72 goals.
With Osimhen now on 62 goals, he needs 11 more goals to overtake Hagi and five more to draw level with Icardi.
His current scoring form means he could continue climbing the ranking during the season.
Osimhen matches Jardel’s record
The Nigerian striker also achieved another impressive milestone during the victory over Erzurum FK.
Osimhen became the first Galatasaray player since Brazilian striker Mario Jardel in the 2000/01 season to score four or more goals across the club’s opening two matches of a Süper Lig campaign.
His latest performance further highlighted his importance to Galatasaray as the club begins its title defence.
Osimhen will now look to maintain his strong start to the season as Galatasaray continue their campaign in Turkey and prepare for their other domestic and European commitments.
