Mohamed Salah scored twice on his first Turkish Super Lig start for Trabzonspor as they secured a 2-1 victory over Istanbul Basaksehir on Saturday.
The 34-year-old Egypt forward, who joined Trabzonspor on a two-year deal after leaving Liverpool on a free transfer, opened his account for the club in his third appearance.
As reported by BBC Sport on Sunday, Salah gave Trabzonspor the lead after capitalising on a mistake from Basaksehir goalkeeper Muhammed Sengezer.
He took the ball from the goalkeeper before seeing his effort deflect and go in off the inside of the post.
Basaksehir equalised through Eldor Shomurodov, who converted from the penalty spot, but Salah quickly restored Trabzonspor’s advantage with a first-time finish from 10 yards.
The former Liverpool star then had a late chance to complete his hat-trick. In injury time, Salah found the net from around 45 yards after the goalkeeper had been beaten, but the effort was ruled out for offside.
He was also booked earlier in the second half for simulation after going down inside the penalty area.
Salah’s two goals mark an impressive start to life in Turkey and give Trabzonspor an important three points as they continue their campaign.
