The national secretariat of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has disowned a chieftain of the party in Ogun State, Abayomi Hunye, over his claim to the party’s governorship ticket in the state.

National Secretary of the party, Senator Ajibola Bashiru, issued the disclaimer in a statement released to journalists in Abuja.

Checks revealed that the Senator representing Ogun West, Solomon Olamilekan Adeola, had emerged as the consensus candidate at the primary conducted in the state.

Further checks revealed that Hunye had on Saturday faulted the process that produced Adeola as the candidate, telling journalists in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital, that he was already challenging the process in court.

The APC National Secretary, however, declared that Hunye had been suspended from the Ogun State chapter of the party since April 2026, “following a petition from his Ward, Tube Ward, in Ipokia Local Government Area. His suspension was ratified by the Ogun State Working Committee and communicated to the National Headquarters.”

Senator Bashiru, who maintained that Adeola was the duly nominated and elected governorship candidate for the 2027 Ogun State governorship election, urged party faithful to disregard Hunye’s claim to the party’s governorship ticket.

The statement read: “The All Progressives Congress (APC) hereby informs the general public, stakeholders, the All Progressives Congress, Ogun State Chapter and the good people of Ogun State that Mr Abayomi Hunye is an impostor who is currently on suspension as a member of the APC.

“His recent self-declaration as the governorship candidate of our great party for the 2027 election is completely false, unauthorised and a mischievous act aimed at misleading the public.

“For the avoidance of doubt, Mr Abayomi Hunye is not a member of the APC in good standing. He was suspended from the party on April 7, 2026, following a petition from his ward, Tube Ward, in Ipokia Local Government Area.

“The suspension was not arbitrary. It was a grassroots decision driven by the Ward Executives in Tube Ward, ratified by the Ipokia Local Government Area and formally approved by the Ogun State Working Committee.

“His suspension was ratified by the Ogun State Working Committee and communicated to the National Headquarters.

“Consequently, he lacks the legal and moral standing to represent the APC in any capacity.

“We reiterate that following the validly conducted primary election of the APC, the duly nominated and elected governorship candidate for the 2027 Ogun State election is Senator Adeola Solomon Olamilekan, with his running mate being Balogun Kudirat Abiodun, in line with the provisions of the Electoral Act 2026 and the guidelines of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

“The names and other particulars of Senator Adeola Solomon Olamilekan and Balogun Kudirat Abiodun have been successfully uploaded onto the NEC Portal, and the Commission has issued official acknowledgement slips confirming them as the duly recognised flag bearers of the APC for the Ogun State governorship election scheduled for January 2027.

“Any person, group or organisation that associates, collaborates or transacts any political business with Mr Abayomi Hunye under the guise of the APC does so at their own risk. The party will not be held liable for any financial loss, legal disputes or criminal liability that may arise from such dealings.

“We have instructed our legal team to initiate contempt proceedings and file a formal complaint with the relevant security agencies to address this gross misrepresentation and impersonation.

“While urging our teeming supporters to remain calm, law-abiding and to ignore any provocations from detractors aimed at disrupting the peace of the state, we implore all concerned that, for clarification and official updates, they should contact the APC National Secretariat through the Office of the National Secretary.”
