The governorship candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) in the 2027 general elections in Kaduna state, Barrister Mohammad Sani Abbas, has urged residents to prioritise competence, credibility and integrity in choosing their next governor.

Abbas, who spoke with journalists in Kaduna, said voters should critically assess the state’s development trajectory and elect a leader capable of addressing its security, infrastructure and socio-economic challenges.

He expressed concern over what he described as the deteriorating state of infrastructure and insecurity in parts of Kaduna State, saying the situation required a change in leadership approach.

“I am calling on the people of Kaduna State to think and look back whether their conditions are better than some years back. We must be sincere with ourselves that we cannot continue deceiving ourselves when we are left behind in the scheme of things,” he said.

The NDC candidate said insecurity had continued to affect communities across the state, citing killings, abductions and displacement of residents.

He also lamented the state of road infrastructure and other social amenities, saying some communities, including those within urban areas, still lacked access roads and other basic facilities.

Abbas urged voters to use the 2027 elections to demand accountability and entrust leadership to candidates capable of delivering tangible development.

“We should stop deceiving ourselves and do the needful by entrusting leadership to the right, credible and competent person that can rightly pilot the affairs of the state so that the dividends of democracy will be evidently seen in every part of the state,” he said.

He said his years in politics had enabled him to establish relationships across the state, adding that his candidature was receiving support from people who believed in his capacity to provide what he described as a new direction for Kaduna.

Abbas also criticised the ruling party, saying the current challenges facing Nigerians should prompt voters to reconsider their political choices ahead of the 2027 elections.

He urged Nigerians to take an active role in determining their political future by supporting candidates with proven records and credible programmes.

Meanwhile, the Director-General of the Abbas Campaign Organisation, Alhaji Ibrahim Kaya, said voters would no longer be satisfied with political promises without concrete plans for addressing their challenges.

Kaya, who is also the Kaduna State Coordinator of the OK Movement, described Abbas as a legal practitioner and banker with over 45 years of experience.

He said the NDC candidate possessed the experience and credibility required to provide effective leadership in Kaduna State.

“The NDC governorship candidate, Barrister Mohammad Sani Abbas, is a reputable lawyer and banker with over 45 years’ experience. He is the candidate the state needs at this time, one that will give all a sense of belonging,” Kaya said.

He said Abbas, if elected, would work towards restoring Kaduna’s position as a major centre of development in Northern Nigeria through investment in infrastructure, social services and other sectors.

Also speaking, the Kaduna state cordinator of the Kwankwasiyya Movement, Alhaji Mohammed Ahmed Aliyu Idris, said members of the movement were supporting Abbas and would work for the success of the NDC in the 2027 elections.

He urged party supporters to remain focused and mobilise voters across the state, assuring that the movement would work towards victory for Abbas and other NDC candidates.
