The constitution of the committee was contained in an appointment letter dated August 20, 2026, issued by the National Publicity Secretary of ZASCOSA. Blueprint reports

The committee is chaired by the National Publicity Secretary, while other members listed in the appointment are Ameena Abdulsalam, Funmilayo Anjorin, Joshua Davou Shon, Lilian Gonji, Anthonia Nwandu and Gambo Abdullahi.

Mallam Abdullahi is the head of audit unit, Blueprint Newspapers.

The committee also includes all state chairmen of the association or their representatives, reflecting an arrangement designed to ensure that the publicity structure has representation across the different chapters of ZASCOSA.

According to the appointment letter, the committee is expected to choose one of its members to serve as secretary.

Focus on effective communication

The committee has been assigned responsibilities covering the major communication and publicity activities of the association.

Among its key functions is the management of ZASCOSA’s WhatsApp group, Facebook page and newsletters.

The committee is also expected to ensure proper coverage of the association’s events through photographs and videos, thereby providing adequate documentation of activities and preserving important moments for members and the association.

Another major responsibility is the preparation of press releases, felicitations and other forms of official communication that may be required to communicate the activities, achievements and programmes of ZASCOSA to members and the wider public.

The committee will equally handle branding for the association, a responsibility expected to contribute to a more coordinated and recognisable public image for ZASCOSA.

The broad mandate given to the committee indicates an effort to create a more structured approach to how information about the association is generated, documented and disseminated.

Appointment based on experience

In the letter, ZASCOSA said the appointment was made in recognition of the experience, integrity and commitment of the individuals selected to serve on the committee.

The association expressed confidence that the members would deploy their knowledge and experience towards the successful discharge of the assignment.

“We trust that you will bring your wealth of knowledge to bear in discharging this responsibility diligently,” the association stated in the letter.

The statement further underscored the expectation that members of the committee would approach their responsibilities with dedication and remain committed to the growth and unity of the old students’ association.

The emphasis on integrity and commitment also reflects the importance attached to the committee’s role as the body responsible for communicating the activities and image of ZASCOSA.

Committee given two weeks to submit report

The newly constituted committee has been given two weeks to submit its report.

According to the appointment letter, the two-week period will take effect from the date of the committee’s inauguration.

The deadline is expected to enable the committee to commence its work promptly and present its recommendations within the stipulated period.

The appointee to whom the letter was addressed was also requested to confirm acceptance of the appointment in writing within two days of receiving the letter.

The association congratulated the appointees on their selection and expressed appreciation for their willingness to serve.

Strengthening ZASCOSA’s public image

The constitution of the Publicity and Media Committee is expected to enhance the way ZASCOSA communicates with its members and the wider community.

With responsibility for digital platforms, newsletters, event coverage, press releases, felicitations and branding, the committee is positioned to serve as an important link between the association’s leadership, members and the public.

The inclusion of state chairmen or their representatives is also expected to facilitate the flow of information from the various chapters to the national structure and ensure that activities across the association receive appropriate publicity.

Beyond announcing activities, the committee will have the responsibility of documenting the association’s programmes and milestones through written reports, photographs and videos.

This could provide ZASCOSA with a more organised archive of its activities while helping members who are unable to attend events physically to remain informed about developments within the association.

The association’s decision to place the National Publicity Secretary at the head of the committee further reinforces the importance attached to coordinated communication and publicity.

As the committee begins its assignment following its inauguration, members are expected to work towards fulfilling the mandate within the two-week reporting period and contribute to the broader objective of strengthening the growth, unity, visibility and public image of ZASCOSA.
