The Commissioner of Police, Anambra State Command, CP Nnanna Oji Ama, on Wednesday, August 26, 2026, led an observation patrol across parts of the state and paid unscheduled visits to police stations in Awka as part of efforts to strengthen security operations ahead of the forthcoming Local Government Elections.

The elections are scheduled to hold across Anambra State on Saturday, August 29, 2026.

During the visits, CP Nnanna inspected the operational environment of the stations, interacted with personnel on duty and assessed their level of preparedness, alertness and responsiveness to security concerns within their areas of responsibility.

The Commissioner also reviewed the conduct of officers and men, stressing the need for professionalism, discipline, courtesy and respect for citizens’ rights before, during and after the elections.

CP Nnanna urged personnel to remain vigilant and politically neutral while carrying out their constitutional responsibilities. He emphasised that effective policing depends on public trust, accountability and professionalism.

He further directed officers to maintain high standards of discipline in their interactions with members of the public, political actors and other stakeholders, warning that acts of indiscipline, misconduct, extortion, corruption, political bias and other forms of unprofessional conduct would not be tolerated.

The Commissioner assured residents of Anambra that the Police Command remains fully committed to providing adequate security for the elections, adding that operational supervision, visibility and strategic deployment would be strengthened across the state.

He said the measures were aimed at safeguarding lives and property, protecting critical infrastructure and ensuring that residents can exercise their civic responsibilities in a peaceful and secure environment.

CP Nnanna also called on residents, political parties, candidates and other stakeholders to cooperate with the Police and other security agencies, obey the law and avoid actions capable of disrupting peace before, during and after the elections.
