The Etsu Nupe and Chairman, Niger State Council of Traditional Rulers, Alhaji Yahaya Abubakar, has urged Muslims to emulate the virtues and teachings of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) for peace, unity and progress of the nation.

Abubakar made the call on Tuesday at his Wadata palace, Bida, during a Maulud celebration commemorating the birth of the Holy Prophet Muhammad.

The traditional ruler said being a Muslim was not merely about professing the faith, but also about demonstrating the fear of Allah and conducting oneself in a manner acceptable to fellow human beings.

“It is not just enough to be a Muslim; you must also have the fear of Allah and behave in the most acceptable manner toward your fellow human beings.

“Let us revive the teachings of the Prophet by preaching peace wherever we find ourselves.

“As Muslims who are sincere in our faith, we are supposed to follow all that the Prophet of Islam preached and taught,” he said.

The first-class traditional ruler noted that Prophet Muhammad preached peace, love and unity, adding that Muslims, as his followers, should reflect those virtues in their daily lives.

In the same vein, t he Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, urged Nigerians to embrace peace, compassion, patience and unity as the country continues to implement reforms aimed at strengthening the economy and improving the well-being of citizens. 

Idris made the call in his Eidel-Maulud message issued on Tuesday to mark the annual commemoration of the birth of Prophet Muhammad (SAW). 

The minister, who extended greetings to Muslims across Nigeria and around the world, said the occasion provided an opportunity for Nigerians to reflect on the teachings and exemplary life of the Prophet, particularly his emphasis on peace, justice, humility and respect for others. 

 According to him, the values associated with the Prophet Muhammad (SAW) remain relevant as Nigeria navigates what he described as a period of reform and renewal. 

“These values are especially important as Nigeria continues to navigate a period of reform and renewal,” Idris said. 

He said the federal government, under the leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, remained committed to building a stronger and more prosperous Nigeria through reforms focused on strengthening the economy, improving security, investing in infrastructure and expanding opportunities in education, skills development and enterprise. 

Idris acknowledged that the reform process required patience and sacrifice, urging Nigerians to maintain their support for efforts aimed at building a more secure, stable and prosperous country. 

“The progress being made requires patience, sacrifice and a shared commitment from all Nigerians,” he said. 

Radda speaks

For his part, Governor Umaru  DIkko Radda of Katsina state, congratulated Muslims in the state and across Nigeria on the occasion of the 2026 Maulud Nabbiy, marking the birth of Prophet Muhammad (SAW).

Governor Radda urged the Muslim faithful to use the occasion to reflect on the Prophet’s enduring teachings of peace, compassion, honesty, patience and service to humanity.

As the country gradually approaches another electioneering period, the governor called for fervent prayers for Nigeria, stressing the need for peace, unity and stability across communities.

He also appealed to political leaders and their supporters to place the nation above personal interests and conduct their activities with responsibility, tolerance and respect for differing views.

“Maulud reminds us of the exemplary life of Prophet Muhammad (S.A.W) and his commitment to peace, justice and the welfare of humanity. At this important period in our national life, I urge Muslims to pray for our country and for peaceful political activities as we move towards another election season,” Radda said.
