The Comptroller General of Immigration (CG), Kemi Nandap, has charged Immigration officers to demonstrate excellence and professionalism in the discharge of their duties at all times.

The immigration chief gave the charge in a commendation message to some officers, who showed distinction in recently concluded Continental and global sporting activities.

A statement signed on Wednesday by the Service Public Relations Officer (national headquarters), DCI Akinsola Akinlabi, reads: “The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) celebrates two remarkable feats by two Officers who have distinguished themselves on the global and continental sporting stage.

“ASI 1 Azeez Moridiyyah Motunrayo proudly emerged as World Champion and Gold Medallist in the W50 Masters Javelin event at the ongoing World Masters Athletics Competition in South Korea.

“Similarly, ASI Kayode Ajilore led the Nigeria Continental Beach Volleyball contingent to a historic double achievement at the African Beach Volleyball Continental Championship — securing Nigeria’s first-ever continental title in the competition and, in the process, earning Nigeria its first-ever Olympic qualification ticket in Beach Volleyball for the LA 2028 Olympic Games.

“CGI KN Nandap, on behalf of the officers and men celebrates these remarkable sporting achievements, which have brought immense pride to the Nigeria Immigration Service and Nigeria as a whole.

“These accomplishments exemplify the spirit of excellence, dedication, resilience and national pride that continues to distinguish our officers and representatives on the global stage”.

In a related development, the NIS, in conjunction with Lagos State University, hosted the 2026 Annual Conference of the African Borderlands Research Network (ABORNE) which runs from 24th -28th August 2026 in Lagos.

The conference, themed “The Connected Borderlands, Socio-Cultural Integration, and the Centrality of Policy, Research, and Security,” highlights the importance of integrating research, policy, technology, and security to foster safer and more connected African borderlands.

Delivering the address on behalf of the Honourable Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, the Senior Policy Advisor to the Minister, Dr Kareem Olakoju, reaffirmed the strategic significance of effective Border Governance for Nigeria’s security and migration framework.

In her welcome address, the CGI reflected on the nation’s leadership in border modernization, from pioneering the continent’s first electronic passport in 2007 to rolling out enhanced e-Passports, contactless biometric passport services, and Automated Border Control.

She noted that borders are not merely lines separating countries but dynamic spaces where people, communities, economies, and cultures connect.

She reaffirmed that Nigeria’s strategy also prioritizes intelligence sharing, cybersecurity, surveillance and command and control capabilities, capacity building, and research as key to building safe, connected, and resilient borderlands.
